On May 23rd, the hydrogen energy development and utilization demonstration project of Hegang Zhangxuan Technology was completed and put into operation. Three days later, the main quality indicators of the green DRI products met the design requirements, the metallization rate exceeded 94%, and all indicators met Class I standards. This marks the maturity of MCC Jingcheng’s green transformation of the smelting process based on coke oven gas zero reforming technology, which replaces traditional carbon reduction with a new type of hydrogen reduction.

Kaishan provided the key core power equipment for the project: a hydrogen rich screw compressor. The oil-free screw compressor has a rotor diameter of 844mm, an exhaust pressure of 0.8Mpa, and technical data such as individual flow rate and maximum exhaust pressure, which is far ahead of domestic peers. The commissioning of this project also marks the completion of Kaishan’s coverage of the ultra large flow range of 10-1100m3/min for oil-free process gas screw compressors, reaching the international advanced level.

Project background
This project is the world’s first hydrogen energy utilization project using rich hydrogen gas sources. It adopts Tenova ENERGIRON technology and can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 50% -80% after completion. It becomes the world’s first new generation low hydrocarbon energy demonstration device and will initiate the process of promoting the transformation from traditional “carbon metallurgy” to new “hydrogen metallurgy”.

At present, hydrogen metallurgy short process is one of the best low-carbon metallurgical routes in the steel manufacturing process, among which the main process “hydrogen reduction” is the ironmaking technology choice to achieve the goal of “carbon neutrality in the steel industry”. The hydrogen reduction new process developed by Hegang Zhangxuan Technology’s hydrogen metallurgy project is the first to develop and implement the “coke oven gas zero reforming vertical furnace direct reduction” process to produce green high-purity iron technology.
In the future, Kaishan will work together with domestic and foreign low-carbon metallurgical industry leaders such as Baowu Steel and Danieli Group to promote and adapt to the evolution needs of low-carbon smelting processes in different technological paths, provide core power equipment for low-carbon metallurgical devices for global steel companies, practice the corporate mission of “contributing to land conservation”, drive the future with technology, and provide process gas pressurization for global steel industry customers A comprehensive, specialized, and personalized Chinese solution for energy recovery.
